Wicton Farm is an organic dairy farm currently milking 120 Holstein Friesan cows. The farm converted to organic in 1998 and continue to supply all their milk to their milk buyer OMSCo (The Organic Milk Suppliers Cooperative) to this day.
The farm runs an extended grazing system with a focus on milk from grass. The milking cows graze outside from early March until late October. The farm aims to operate and maintain a low cost system with attention to detail at the heart of its success.
The farm now operates a successful minimal machinery policy which comprises of just one telehandler, a quad bike and little else. All tractor field operations are carried out by local contractors who do a fantastic job.
The cows are housed in a large and spacious barn with 140 sand bedded cubicles, each 1.2m in width, that comfortably accommodate the herd. Feed space is allocated at 75cm per cow, with headlocks for ease of handling enabling one person to treat, inspect or AI animals single handed.
